Architecturally, the rustic finished house integrates strategic volumes, along with an array of slope roofs stacked in various elevated configurations.

Plan Design

Meticulously weaving the surrounding landscape, neatly orienting shaded and outdoor areas, and integrating scenic viewpoints in and out of the property—were the prime attributes focused on by the architects. They began by preserving the existing natural biosphere and innovatively ‘zoning’ to configure an exceptional floor plan.

The house is geared to entertain guests to swim in the pool, go fishing, and hunting while experiencing a country life charm. An outdoor patio with louvred extents is always open for entertainment, accommodating a large dining table for a feast. If your jam is to lie down under the shade of tree canopies or gaze into the night sky on decks, then you are at the right place.

The client insisted on crafting a functional home with an entertaining lifestyle, and the architects re-designed the original design to bring together a fabulous countryside home

Site Design

Drive through quaint and winding roads lined by beautiful oak trees and lush natural vegetation. A large driveway leads you into a vast landscape with an enticing garden studded with oak trees.

As you approach the house, a two-car garage with modern amenities is all you need for your motor needs. A veranda with recessed ingress features a boulevard with outdoor chairs and a fountain alongside large French doors of steel, welcoming you into this remarkable estate.

Design to fit the land.

Our clients choose Motif for our expertise in designing custom homes that fit gracefully into the context of the Texas Hill Country landscape.

They value our team’s shared passion for designing homes that exhibit continuity with traditional, vernacular, and classical architecture. Our ability to listen to their dreams and goals for their home, comprehensively weaving together solutions suited to the uniqueness of their site, sets us apart.

Our previous projects include homes located on varied sites, including country for ranches, estate lots, rivers, and lakes. Our work also includes barns and accessory buildings, master planning of ranches and vacation compounds, and selected commercial work. Regardless of the project, each building has been designed to incorporate the southern charm of Texas that runs deep in our veins.

Star Gazing Deck

Located above the mother-in-law suite, the star gazing deck captures the brilliant Hill Country bright skies. As a dual function, the deck also provides weather protection over the mother-in-law suite's private entry door and ample parking for an UTV.

Drone Studies

Before the initial design began, Motif Architects visited the site to review potential views by utilizing a drone. This project also has the ability to view the lake from a certain distance and direction.

Hill Country Modern Elevations

Incorporating the most durable materials and construction techniques that your budget allows will help your home withstand the test of time. While the outlay for the initial cost for robust, quality materials is higher, this approach will safeguard your home by increasing its longevity, and will simultaneously build character.

The exterior elevations combines stucco, limestone, board and batten + ship lap fibre cement board with composite wood decking and metal standing seam roofs. Various-sized accordion windows usher natural light into the spaces within and extend outdoor living into the home.

An expressive framework of timber columns and beams, metal-framed windows and doors, and exterior stone facings in an otherwise white-themed composition weave the house with exceptional uniqueness.

You enjoy the views while we get to work.

As a bespoke home designer and residential architect located in the heart of Texas Hill Country, Motif believes that situational context is paramount in new home designs.

Our architectural choices are guided by regional influences and the diverse cultures that have shaped the Texas Hill Country and the greater Austin area. The rugged beauty and complexity of the land, as well as our respect for the deep local history, inspire our authentic and custom home designs.

Design elements to Modernize your Ranch Estate.

By respecting the larger context of the ranch, we carefully position the homes and other buildings to create an idyllic homestead. By enhancing the situational context of a building within the landscape, a story can unfold in the design. The end result is a house that feels like a continuation of the landscape – as if has been there since the beginning.

We love Hill Country Homes

The Texan Hill Country is like no other.

It's an area of rolling limestone hills, relaxing vineyards, and auburn-colored soil that inspires creativity in the hearts of those who live there.

The architectural designs of these dwellings are as diverse as the landscape itself - boasting traditional features, it mixes authentic and rustic designs with modern needs. They feature clarity of circulation; natural light and a harmonious connection between indoor and natural outdoor spaces. Sensibly designed buildings that include covered porches; appropriate scale; careful massing; clear hierarchy; natural materials; and respect for the building site.

Not only do we design ranch houses...
We also spend a lot of time in the hill country too.

Family Space

Lavishly spaced interiors, acoustically treated, weave an expansive living area at the home’s heart clubbed with a kitchen and dining. Bedrooms settle in the house’s two suites, open to scenic views.

Leading through a small foyer, you enter the heart of the home. The family living gathers an oversized stone fireplace with wine cabinets and a tv unit alongside a cushioned leather sofa set. Suspended black-framed light fixtures bring in a fashionable vibe.

Kitchen

Opposite the stone wall is an open kitchen with a breakfast counter, fully customised with Wolf Subzero appliances. The kitchen branches into an intimate dining space, perfect for family meals.

The kitchen features double islands with build in storage and a intimate breakfast area for entertaining guest and friends. The butler pantry is located behind the corridor, which includes a meal prep area and separate refrigerator.

Accordion Windows

These windows seem fascinating and serve a useful purpose. They easily remove the physical barrier, allowing these places to merge, utilizing indoors in specific spatial arrangements.

Due to the lounge’s accordion windows, the indoor and outdoor areas can be seamlessly combined. Because of how the windows fold, they provide direct access from the dining room to the outside, thereby bringing the view inside and incorporating it into the design of the space.

The living area steps into a large outdoor deck, with an additional kitchen and dining that steps down to a grand swimming pool and garden. Accessed by an external staircase is an elevated outdoor deck to view the charming lake and gaze at shimmering stars.

A pass-thru bar is provided to connect the indoor and outdoor kitchen.

Zoned Areas

The floor plan layout was divided into four zones, the first for the primary owner, the second for the mother-in-law or extended guest, the third for visiting family and the fourth for entertainment.

Such a vision inherited the owner to cool/heat each zone separately, thus making it more economical and sustainable. The owner also has the ability to "close off" a wing of the house for sleeping grand children.

Primary Suite

The primary bedroom beyond the stonewall is a spacious and contemporary room with windows on all three sides. Lit by cove light with a cosy bed and furniture around, the space breathes a soothing ambience. The bedroom has a gorgeous attached bathroom with a dedicated his and her vanity, an inbuilt spa bathtub with a classical chandelier above, a shower cubicle and two walk-ins. An office space with an attached bathroom, accessed from the foyer, is well-placed to work without disturbance.

Guest Suite

On the other suite are two lovely bedrooms and a guest bedroom, encompassing modern features with attached bathrooms and walk-ins. The guest room has a private deck and a separate entrance from the outside.

This wing also incorporates a butler room and a mud room that leads to the garage.

Mock-up Mood Boards

Nourished in a material palette of stone, wood, and metal finishes, along with white, brown and beige tones, the interior design characterizes warmth and affluence.

Using natural materials not only honors the Hill Country history, but also brings a timeless beauty, depth, and texture to a new home. Incorporating salvaged antique materials and house parts adds warmth to a new home and is an excellent sustainable choice as it extends the lifespan of those reclaimed elements.

Virtual mood boards were created to help illustrate the material selection and other suggested combinations.
