Motif Architects was brought on board to oversee the planning and develop a new design aligned with the church's growth and future aspirations.
Our team crafted a vision for Cornerstone Church that meets its current needs and sets a solid foundation for the future. Phase 1 involved master planning, site preparation, mass grading, and constructing a temporary worship space via trailer.
Phase 2 will feature a 7,700-square-foot worship space, including classrooms, offices, a break room, and support spaces. We developed detailed drawings, renderings, and animations to secure construction bids and gather donations.
Looking ahead to Phase 3, we are excited about plans for a larger worship space and a standalone building. Once Phase 3 is complete, the Phase 2 building will be repurposed as a youth worship area, ensuring that every member of the Cornerstone Church community has a dedicated space.
"Located between Marble Falls and Lakeway, the site boasts stunning hill country views, making it a beloved church for many."
A vibrant modern church tucked away in the beautiful Texas Hill Country!
We absolutely infused our design with the vibrant spirit of the church's current branding and its inspiring mission!
Programming
In early 2023, Motif Architects was engaged by Cornerstone Church in Lakeway to analyze their existing set of drawings, initially created by a volunteer drafting group. After our initial discussion, we recommended that the church revisit the programming of their space to better align with their current and future needs. This approach allowed us to create a more efficient layout by eliminating unnecessary corridor space and combining several rooms into multipurpose areas, thereby enhancing the overall functionality of the space.

Plan Design
Following this strategic reprogramming, we began developing a detailed floor plan and exterior elevations based on a Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) structure. The design boasts an industrial modern aesthetic that aligns seamlessly with the church's branding.
Our focus was not only on aesthetic appeal but also on practicality and efficiency. This comprehensive design approach ensured that the new layout met the diverse needs of the congregation while maintaining a cohesive visual identity.
Site Design
In the early stages of the project, we collaborated closely with a civil engineer and a contractor to develop a grading plan for Phase 1, which included a temporary worship trailer. This early collaboration was crucial for creating accurate cost estimate packages and ensuring a smooth execution of the project. Our efforts in this initial phase laid a strong foundation for the subsequent phases, ensuring that the project remained on track and within budget while meeting the high standards set by Cornerstone Church.
Due to the site's steep topography, we assessed multiple options for project placement, as well as the costs associated with cut and fill and retaining wall construction. Early collaboration with an engineer enabled us to make informed decisions regarding building pad elevation, site drainage, accessible parking, trash location, and site retainage.
This proactive approach ensured optimal project execution and cost efficiency while addressing the site's unique challenges.
Design to fit the land.
Our clients choose Motif for our expertise in designing projects that fit gracefully into the context of the Texas Hill Country landscape.
Our team is highly experienced in navigating the complexities of challenging sites in this region of Texas. We understand the unique topography and environmental factors that influence our projects. Our approach is to work in harmony with the natural landscape, ensuring that our designs seamlessly integrate with the land rather than impose upon it. By doing so, we create spaces that are not only functional and aesthetically pleasing but also sustainable and respectful of the Hill Country’s natural beauty.
Blending our designs with the land is crucial for maintaining the character and charm of the Hill Country that we cherish. This philosophy drives every aspect of our work, from the initial site assessment and planning to the final execution of the project. Our commitment to this approach ensures that each project enhances its surroundings, becoming an integral part of the environment and a testament to our respect for the unique landscapes that make this area so special.
Worship and Back-of-House
Worship Space
Lavishly spaced interiors, acoustically treated, weave an expansive living area at the home’s heart clubbed with a kitchen and dining. Bedrooms settle in the house’s two suites, open to scenic views.
Leading through a small foyer, you enter the heart of the home. The family living gathers an oversized stone fireplace with wine cabinets and a tv unit alongside a cushioned leather sofa set. Suspended black-framed light fixtures bring in a fashionable vibe.
The worship space was designed with flexibility in mind, accommodating the church's dynamic needs. Given that live bands frequently perform during services, the inclusion of a stage and sound booth was essential. The space features exposed HVAC ducts, exposed metal structures, and industrial-style finishes, aligning perfectly with the church's branding and creating a cohesive aesthetic.
The layout also ensures functional accessibility for the pastor, who can enter the building through a back door, providing direct access to both the staffing office and the worship space. Additionally, the pastor's office is thoughtfully designed to include a shower and support space, offering convenience and comfort. This design not only enhances the church's operations but also reflects a modern and practical approach to creating a worship environment.
Breakroom and Classroom Design
Breakroom
The breakroom serves a dual purpose as a pass-thru coffee bar and a support space for the classrooms, equipped with prep areas for special events. This versatile setup ensures that refreshments and resources are readily available, enhancing the functionality and convenience for both staff and students. The classrooms are designed with flexibility in mind, featuring folding partitions that allow the spaces to be reconfigured into various room sizes to accommodate different activities and group sizes.
Security is a top priority, and the front desk is strategically positioned to have direct views of all exit and access points, including the restroom and break room. This careful planning provides peace of mind for children and parents, ensuring a safe and secure environment. By maintaining clear sightlines, staff can effectively monitor the premises, enhancing overall safety and supervision.
Price Package
Part of of services included a comprehensive pricing package essential for projects reliant on donations and funding from a church. This package outlines the costs associated with construction, engineering, permitting, and other related expenses, aiding the church in establishing a baseline for securing donations and funding.
